ok. due to technical difficulties, i can't put the videos up here fer u guys... sry. but if anyone wants them, u can just msg me and i'll send it 2 u guys. anyway, here's a critique of yesterday's show.
Hady- ok. basically, i dun agree at all with what ken said. not just cos ken's a prick, but he does have very rich vocals, as rahimah mentioned to me a few days ago. his ballading skills are rather flawless, as well as his ability to captivate the audience. maybe it had to do with him wearing white, but he was shining on stage. in every sense of the word.

Randy-randy was very old sch fer me, but not exactly in a bad way. it was very elvis-sy fer me. and i could tell that he was relli enjoying himself on stage. but as with geraldine's performance last week, he wasn't able to relli put a phenomanal impact on the song. i would have welcomed points where he took the soles of his feet away frm the stage. he was fun, enjoying himself, but he wasn't hyper. to do a song like dat, one needs 2 be relli hyper. i've noticed dat all the hits songs, with large reputations etc all require a lot of energy to bring justice to them. but randy, u did alright, dude. gr8 effort.

Adil- adil. adil, adil, adil... kiss from a rose. haiz...image was wonderful, he had the whoel goth thing goin' on, with the eyeliner and everything. but vocas-wise, he was very bouncy. it was like, high low high low high high low. i mean, at least maintain the pitch lah. sadly, he also wasn;t able to end the song on a good note. and it loked like he was relli straining. but regarding his stage presence, he was relli friendly with the mikestand and his movements were very captivating, but i juz can't say many meritable thigns about his vocals, sry...

Jay- ok. jay is a singer. no doubt about that. vocal range is amazing, but it's very, fake. as in. it's very different frm his usual voice. it works to his advantage. but it's just weird. ppl like randy and hady, ahve singing voices close to their speaking voices. and it's very natural-sounding. but with jay, it's like "wow. is that relli him?" doing a ballad was a wise move fer him. image-wise was a bit out-of-place to me, cos he was, overly-dressed. litterally. as in he wore too much. it would have been better fer him to just wear a shirt, with a necklace, and long pants, which i feel would have suited his song better.

roslan- i dun relli have much to say about roslan, except that's he has a very charming smile. no doubt about that. image-wise was alright, and his singing voice is very sultry, very smooth. pleasant. however, it was a very forgettable performance. it's just like a normal, stand, sing, leave, kinda thing. not very captivating fer me.

primero-wow. very emotional. i think song-wise was alright, although the last note is very tricky.but i could see he was singing with all his heart, and enjoying it at the same time. i found the last note, after he turned away to be very very emo, though... it was like, cool, but a bit over the top. image-wise is rather attractive, compliments his "sexy-beast" image, although i can imagine some ppl would rather see him in a thong. haha. jkjk. primero, dun kill me. haha. anyway,very memroable performnce. i just hope it's fer the right reasons.

joakim- our crowd fav. joakim jude shane gomez. hmm....how to put it? ok. probably the most memorable performance of the evening, doing geek in the pink was quite a risky move, considering dat the song duzzent relli appeal to all ages. vocal-wise, it was too deep, and didn't have a jason mraz feel to it. but it did have a joakim gomez feel to it, so well done. parts of the song were changed, and it was fer the better bah. the dance solo was a bit too much fer me, but hey, the fans liked it, so wad can i say, ryte? it was a very risky move to pull the audience into the song, but he had fans in the audience, so it kinda did work out. dancing and everything was very coordinated to the song, not to mention clothes were matching with the song, and it was very entertaining.

Singapore Idol? ryte...
i'm watching the singapore idol results show ryte now, the results r not announced yet, but frm wad i see, and frm yesterday's piano show, here's my take:
geraldine-so chose the wrong song... so powerless, so empty. moreover, she assumed her fanbase was damn big, and tried 2 rally support fer herself against the judge's comments, 2 no avail... shows a damn big ego. haiz...
melissa- she can hold a note, sure... but, she duzzen't have a relli obvious star quality. i mean, she's the kinda person better heard and not seen... it's not relli very memorable.
milly-i found her 2 be rather stiff, like an opera singer, standing in one position, not moving at all, save some hand movements... rather lame performance.
siew woon-let's face it. her singing sux. but i feel she's trying 2 boost her image more. it's about how u sound, not how u look. get with it, girl...
rahimah-she's a very memorable person, being a rocker chick and all, i juz hope dat if/when she gets into the top 12, she won't try and change her genre for the sake of "diversity" cos, dat's juz asking for it...
now, the last 2, whom i feel have a chance to excel:
jasmine- honestly, i relli like jasmine. she's damn cute. haha. ok lah, professionally, her performance was very captivating. there's this charisma that makes ppl wanna watch her, and let's face it, her stage presence is ginormous. and her singing is, well, above average.
gayle- 2 use jacintha's words, she's a singer. no doubt about it. gr8 voice, can hold a note, but one prob. only average stage presence. maybe a little more movement would be gr8. although, honestly, she looks like her confidence is very brittle. but, that's juz frm wad i see lah.
although it relli duzzen't matter, about how well they sing, i still put my votes on these last 2. come on. let's be realistic. Singapore Idol is not a singing contest. it's a popularity contest. ppl noe dat. which is why u get interesting characters like, the kung-fu rapper and the hula-hoop guy. we all noe y the auditions gain so much viewership. du say u dun watch it cos of all the colorful characters.
update-congrats to rahimah fer making it 2 the finals. baik ah.
the line-up now is jasmine, geraldine, gayle. geraldine and gayle can gg liaoz.

well... 2dae was the big day. the shooting comp. started out easily enuff, metat sch bright and early, when it was still dark, found chun kang was the first guy dere, sat down 2 change, the usual shit...
shared a bus with tkss, not sure if jmin would be in her sch's shooting team... didn't relli matter anyway...we got 2 HTA, and took a gr8 big trek around the damn compound, which, i ltr found, caused devestation 2 the hem of my pants.... we had 2 queue 2 go in, but cos mr koh didn't wanna tire us out, he let us do shifts of 2 ppl each. waaah... so kind... haha.
when we did get into the shooting range, relli bad shit started happening. the first set of 6 rounds, in 15 secs, was damn slow. i ended up not firing 2 shots. damn!!!! fuck!!!! grr... and ltr on, i somehow managed 2 fire faster than everyone else, resulting in very spread out shots. which sux. bad.
switched targets 2 the traditional bullseye or NRA target. the first 6 rounds went more or less alright. but then, during the next 6 rounds, 2 words wasted like, 10 seconds of my goddamn time. gun. jam. took me 1 sec 2 experience the problem, 1 sec 2 identify the problem, and 1 more second 2 hand it 2 te officer, who proceeded 2 waste a further 7 seconds of my time, rectifyign the problem. but, being my calm self, i rapid-fired my last 6 rounds, 2 god-knows-where. shit man...
ok, up till this point, things looked pretty grim. then, when it came 2 the marking room, a black sticker fell off on of the holes in the bullseye on my NRA. i told the CI, and he said juz bring it 2 the officer and let him decide. fine. brought it 2 the officer, this was the convo
me- err, sir. that bullseye is not mine.
sir-relli? [glances at me, loks at my marksman badge, looks back at the paper] i dun tink so leh...
me- sir, it's relli not mine.

well... 2dae was the big day. the shooting comp. started out easily enuff, metat sch bright and early, when it was still dark, found chun kang was the first guy dere, sat down 2 change, the usual shit...
shared a bus with tkss, not sure if jmin would be in her sch's shooting team... didn't relli matter anyway...we got 2 HTA, and took a gr8 big trek around the damn compound, which, i ltr found, caused devestation 2 the hem of my pants.... we had 2 queue 2 go in, but cos mr koh didn't wanna tire us out, he let us do shifts of 2 ppl each. waaah... so kind... haha.
when we did get into the shooting range, relli bad shit started happening. the first set of 6 rounds, in 15 secs, was damn slow. i ended up not firing 2 shots. damn!!!! fuck!!!! grr... and ltr on, i somehow managed 2 fire faster than everyone else, resulting in very spread out shots. which sux. bad.
switched targets 2 the traditional bullseye or NRA target. the first 6 rounds went more or less alright. but then, during the next 6 rounds, 2 words wasted like, 10 seconds of my goddamn time. gun. jam. took me 1 sec 2 experience the problem, 1 sec 2 identify the problem, and 1 more second 2 hand it 2 te officer, who proceeded 2 waste a further 7 seconds of my time, rectifyign the problem. but, being my calm self, i rapid-fired my last 6 rounds, 2 god-knows-where. shit man...
ok, up till this point, things looked pretty grim. then, when it came 2 the marking room, a black sticker fell off on of the holes in the bullseye on my NRA. i told the CI, and he said juz bring it 2 the officer and let him decide. fine. brought it 2 the officer, this was the convo
me- err, sir. that bullseye is not mine.
sir-relli? [glances at me, loks at my marksman badge, looks back at the paper] i dun tink so leh...

The calm before the storm...
ARGH! i'm shivering with nervousness ryte now... the idea dat shooting comp is barely 12 hours away is relli tkaing it's toll on me. none theless, i shall summon the power of all the well wishes u kind souls (or otherwise) have given me, and try my best not to screw it up tmr. haha. but i guess if i do badly, i have onli myself 2 blame bah... all the slack trainings i attended (2) and how i have the targets and gun in my bag but not bothering 2 practice... prolly cos nowhere in my hse is 15 metres long... hmm... but knowing me, 15m wil be my downfall. the distance is way too gr8. i screwed up my 12 metres at the marksmanship shoot liaoz lah!!! ARGH!!!
regardless, there is still x3 on tues which i can enjoy with the gang. at last, a full gathering. hopefully i dun make a fool of myself there. hell... who am i kidding? maybe this time i'll get 2 eat noodles with a spoon... i desperately need self-esteem... haha. competition updates tmr!

Every man for Himself

Every Man For Himself by Hoobastank is a very emotionally-centered album, largely to do with breaking away frm dependence and growing up. the opening track, "The Rules" is an introduction from a very, entertaining, drill sergeant. as can be plainly seen(heard), he bores down and demoralizes the listener the marching at the end of "the rules" leads into the second track "born to lead". it focuses a lot on how everyone has their own leadership potential and how we r able to unleash that potential.
"Moving Forward", which is up next, is about the first steps after gaining independence. It has a lot to do with making mistakes and learning them, and experiencing the difficulties of life, but persevering through it all and progressing.
the next track, "inside of you" is, as far as i can infer, a song on how he attempts to hit on a girl. and, in my opinion is gonna fuck up relli badly. haha. but it's not a song fer little children... haha. nah lah. the tempo of the song is actually gives a kinda feeling of desperation. and that the singer is a sex-crazed maniac. oops! i mean, love-deprived individual.
"First of me" is a much deeper, and more mellow song, both in terms of tone and in terms of topic. it deals with corruption and influence. perhaps the most accurate inference would be to drug use. on how it is not easy to shy away from temptation, yet be admired for ur nerve, and ur wilingess to experiment. the lyrics say it all...

Next up is "good enough" classic song about not being able to meet someone's expectations. it's a song with punk-rockish lyrics, but with rockish music. when u hear the whole song in little stanzas of not more than a few lines each, u tend 2 see all the points he's bringing up.
"If i were you", which is on the radio, is, for those of u hu have nvr heard it, about appreciating all that is given to us, and how we shouldn't take stuff for granted. it also anknowledges the fact that there are ppl more fortunate than some fo us, who take what they have for granted, oblivious to the fact that there are ppl worse off than themselves, and how these less fortunate individuals would yearn to be in their positions.or to "live the life that [they] wanted to"
Jumping stratght into the exciting and pulsating beats of "without a fight" completely blows "if i were you" from ur mind. it talks of how our opportunities have arrived and how we seize them with enthusiasm and anticipation. so, if ur opportunity has arrived. GET OFF UR LAZY ASS!!!
"don;t tell me" is more about how talk is cheap. although there is no specific target, it speaks generally to everyone hu would make empty promises and not having any action 2 prove it. what you say will be forgotten someday, but what u do will be remembered.
"look where we are now" takes us back to "moving forward" as he looks back on how long it had been since he broke away frm dependence and moved out to survive on his own, and doing much better becos of it. but they remind us that there is more road left to walk, and that their "story isn't done".
continuing from "look where we are now", "say the same" is from friend to friend, as they reflect on their journeys thus far and how neither have any regrets. although it is a parting song, where both friends are seperating from each other and how they wouldn't change a single thing that has happened to them.
"if only" is a much more subtle match to "inside of you". while the latter was a more direct and "let's have sex" approach, "if only" is a more, subtle, and more gentle, using riffs reminiscent of electrico. and it focuses on how certain methods used were rather, inapporpriate, and how if he had seen his own mistakes, he ight not have failed.
the final track, "more than a memory" is a seven minute reflection on the ppl hu held him back, deterred him, or in any way, sowed him down, although it seems to be directed more to his love, whom he still wants to reconcile with, and to him, she's still "tangible" and still "more than a memory".
overall, this album about growing up, accepting changes, and the trials and tribulations of the real world, break away from the old "songs about you" wich hoobastank are so reknown for.

shooting training read: unintelligent behaviour.

flea-when we first started this band, there was this...this uncontrollable energy that we couldn't control!
me- wow. intelligent inference.
well, shooting comp is juz around the corner(monday) and the team has been training relli hard the past few days, squeezing more tissue paper than usual and staring at their thumbs for extended periods of time... woohoo! jia you, guys!
went 2 sch at like, 10++, thinking i was late, but in actual fact, shooting training hadn't even started yet. lameness... met tim on outside np room, proceeded 2 play some carum. dunno how 2 spell the damn sport. can't play fer nuts either. hu cares, man? it's not even a championship sport. met up with teck boon and kang ming and tim fu at around 11 plus. i must admit, it was fun rotating hu held the target. i was practicing, and aiming, den teck boon walked into my crosshair and fiegned death. i got a fucking shock lah! fer a second tere, i actually believed i shot teck boon. but with teck boon's strength and extremely large bone density, i think he might actually survive a shot 2 the head. fired frm a catapult. but still rather shocking.
after training, i went 2 the club fer lunch, had char kway teow. not bad, but still couldn't fnish the damn thing. stupid chicken wings. anyway, rather uneventful day, so i'll juz sign off here. maybe i'll do that hoobastank review ltr tonite.
